چکیده

The paper studies a single-server queueing system with autonomous service and l priority classes. Arrival and departure processes are defined by marked point processes. There are l buffers corresponding to priority classes, and upon arrival a unit of the kth priority class occupies the place in the kth buffer. Let N , k = 1, 2, . . . , l denote the quota for the total kth buffer content. The values N (k) are assumed to be large, and queueing systems both with finite and infinite buffers are studied. In the case of system with finite buffers, the values N (k) characterize buffer capacities. The paper discusses a circle of problems related to optimization of performance measures associated with overflowing the quota of buffer contents. Our approach to this problem is new, and presentation of our results is simple and clear for real applications.

SOLVING FUZZY LINEAR PROGRAMMING PROBLEMS WITH LINEAR MEMBERSHIP FUNCTIONS-REVISITED

Recently, Gasimov and Yenilmez proposed an approach for solving two kinds of fuzzy linear programming (FLP) problems. Through the approach, each FLP problem is first defuzzified into an equivalent crisp problem which is non-linear and even non-convex. Then, the crisp problem is solved by the use of the modified subgradient method. In this paper we will have another look at the earlier defuzzifi...

Bandwidth and Distortion Revisited

In this paper we merge recent developments on exact algorithms for finding an ordering of vertices of a given graph that minimizes bandwidth (the BANDWIDTH problem) and for finding an embedding of a given graph into a line that minimizes distortion (the DISTORTION problem). For both problems we develop algorithms that work in O(9.363) time and polynomial space. For BANDWIDTH, this improves O(10...

Design and Evaluation of a Method for Partitioning and Offloading Web-based Applications in Mobile Systems with Bandwidth Constraints

Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...

Investigating the Performance of Video-on-Demand Systems Over WLANs Using Generic Association Control

The problem of scalable video-on-demand (VoD) delivery has been extensively studied over the past years, in the context of wired networks. As VoD-based applications are gaining more and more attention, there is an increasing need of ubiquitous access for them. Wireless networks can be the answer to this need. However, the system behind the application must be scalable to deal with a growing amo...
